Connor’s Africa Service Trip

I’m going to Africa!

July will never come too soon.

I’m going to be heading to Zambia on a three week volunteer service trip this July. Sweet!

I’ll be heading over with Mothers Without Borders. You might remember them from a service project [2] I did through them in September.

Find out more on the about page, and please (please!) help me reach my fundraising goal of $5000!

I’ll be using this separate blog as a location to post updates, track progress on my fundraising goal (wanna help?), and eventually post stories and journal updates while I’m over in Africa.

WoW! That is so exciting. We just met a couple who went to Zambia and adopted 2 children. My wife and I and our 6 kids want to eventually work with Mothers Without Borders, when our kids are a little older.

    Connor,
Two of the languages of Zambia are “Bemba” and “Shona”.

If you can fit them in your luggage and make it within weight restrictions, get some church material in those languages, and the same material in English.

Shona: Book of Mormon, and ‘Gospel Fundamentals’
Bemba: Joseph Smith Testimony pamphlet, and Gospel Fundamentals’.

Make sure you buy as many English as you do in the foreign language.

People love gifts! See if you can give them out. I bet you will.

Hi I don’t know you, but I was searching for ways to fundraise for a volunteer service trip I am going on this summer and I came across your site. I am just wondering: What types of things are you doing to raise money? And how did you set up a website like this? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me! -Brittany

I know you’re anxious to go, but the wait will be worth it. Just ask Dan & I, we’re the waiting king and queen. We waited for 7 months at home for our humanitarian mission to India, then those visas were denied and we waited 2 more months to go to the MTC for training. After we got there a 2 1/2 week training turned out to be a full 9 weeks, but the time finally came, and the last 3 months have just flown by. The time will come. Did I mention that for a week or two we thought they might change our mission to Ethiopia? However in this case, we were needed more here. What you’re doing is wonderful. Best of luck with it. Connor, email me your snail-mail address, and I will ship you some church material in the BEMBA language, along with the corresponding English material for you to take to Zambia.
